i'm here. and i'm still pregnant. but i'm on modified bed rest. argh.
holidays were great - not too many griswald moments although there were some... after the holidays, it was back to work and with that started some mild pelvic pressure which turned into intense pelvic pain. lucky for me, it got just a little worse every day. now, being the virgin preggo (talk about a mix of words there...), i thought this was all normal. i am gaining weight at lightening speed (up to 18 lbs now - eek!) and have a bump that would impress even the most pregnant of women. so it makes sense that i have this rushing pain in my pelvic area, right?
umm. no.
dr love gave me all kinds of crap. i was in to see him on thursday and he sent me home to bed. he threatened 8 weeks but said we'd start with 1 and re-assess. apparently, this pain can be the first sign of preterm labour. what? eeeeeek! everything else checked out fine, baby's heart rate looks good, blood pressure good, manual cervix check suggested that my cervix was long and closed. i haven't had any contractions (thank god!) and have no other symptoms of preterm labour. i pee'd in a cup so they could run a full urinalysis (not sure what he's looking for here) and i'm going for an ultrasound today to get a proper cervical length measurement and then i'm back to see dr. love on thurs.
so, here i am "working from home" this week. the good news? relaxing at home = no pelvic pressure. at all. fucking a. i'm really hoping i can get back to work and get at least a month more in before mat leave. i can't imagine being off for a good chunk of, or even worse, the balance of this pregnancy, and then taking a year mat leave... some one's gotta clean up the work in my office!!
i haven't been reading, commenting, nothing. i'm going to try to catch up with all of you this week.... i hope there's lots of good news out there :)
Im having the opposite problem as you, kinda. No pelvic pressure but lots of braxton hicks. Is very nerve wracking. Hang in there. Hopefully the one week of bed rest fixes you right up and you can get back to work, for at least a little bit!
ReplyDeleteDang! Doctor-ordered bed rest is one of those things that sounds great in the abstract but really, really isn't. I hope you're back to your regular routine soon!
ReplyDeleteglad to hear you're hanging in there...... get all the rest you can this week!
ReplyDeleteOh dear. That's scary stuff. I very much hope it's just a brief phase!
ReplyDeleteLisa, hang in there. Sounds like he's just being super cautious and I hope you can use the time for some well-deserved R&R. Keeping fingers crossed that in a week he says, "Nah, it was nothing".
ReplyDeleteI had a gal at work (the Pregnant Fertile Bitch, in case you remember her) who had a very bad scare. She just had a little healthy guy last wk. I believe in your Take Home Baby! There are loads and loads of good stories out there that end the way we want it.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are some horrible, horrible losses too. Dont let those scare you. You know that is the one bad thing about blogging - you know the worst that can happen.
We are here for you. Dont let your worries get the best of you. Bed rest must be BRUTAL. Dont go surfing, doll. Stay on the happy path.
Take it easy and love on that baby for me.
Sounds like the bed rest is required. And also, it sounds like it's helping. Gotta keep baby wannabe in there for a little longer. Good luck with your week of bed rest. Sending relaxing thoughts your way, and hoping you can go back to work to close things up before mat leave starts officially.
ReplyDeleteGah! How scary! But the fact that the bed rest is making the pressure go away, and that your cervix is closed, are really really reassuring. Keep us posted! But I am sure all will be well and this is just a very smart precaution against a remote possibility.
